Velo3D is transitioning from an unstable capital-equipment vendor toward a mixed systems and recurring-parts model. First-quarter 2026 revenue growth, positive gross margin, a larger backlog, defense contracts, and expanded production capacity support the operating inflection. The counterweight is substantial: recent equity issuance, prior debt conversion, planned capital expenditure, and management’s stated dependence on sufficient financing.
The stock should therefore be underwritten as a high-beta execution and financing case, not simply as a superior printer technology. Business model
Velo3D sells the Sapphire family of laser powder-bed-fusion systems, Flow print-preparation software, Assure quality-control technology, service and support, and increasingly parts through its Rapid Production Solutions business. The architecture is designed for difficult geometries and repeatability across distributed machines without extensive redesign of the part.
System sales remain the largest near-term revenue driver. Management expects RPS parts production to become a larger share of revenue, which could improve recurring demand and customer intimacy but requires capital for production assets and operational execution.

It is demonstrating that this revenue produces sustainable gross margin, declining operating cash burn, and sufficient returns on RPS production assets. A revenue beat financed by repeated share issuance can still destroy per-share value.
