Hexagon: dimensional metrology and CT inspection for the AM quality loop, after exiting AM process simulation.
PC-DMIS and scanning systems measure external geometry, and Volume Graphics software analyses internal CT data. Hexagon sold its Design & Engineering business, including Simufact, to Cadence in February 2026 and also divested CADS additive. After the Octave separation, it is concentrated on measurement, manufacturing quality, positioning and autonomy.

2026-09-19 — Renishaw, Hexagon & ATI AM Exposure Refresh (Sep 2026)
NEXT CATALYST TO MONITOR
Waygate closing (on track for Q4 2026), CT hardware integration with Volume Graphics, Manufacturing Intelligence growth and any AM-specific disclosure.
Quick research snapshot
AM exposure: Low
Pure-play score: 1 / 5
Bottleneck score: 4 / 5
Evidence: Qualified
Financial materiality: Immaterial
Main risk: AM exposure is financially diluted across a broad industrial-tech portfolio.
Research verdict: Hexagon owns valuable metrology and industrial-CT quality layers for AM; after the 2026 sale of Simufact and CADS additive, its moat is in verification, not process simulation or printer hardware.
Investor read
Hexagon reported 13% organic growth in Q3 2026, its highest in five years, with a 26.5% EBIT1 margin and 82% cash conversion. Manufacturing Intelligence grew 16% organically, led by Stationary and Portable Metrology. The subsequent distribution of Octave completed on 28 May 2026, leaving Hexagon without an ownership interest in the spun software company.
The remaining equity is more directly exposed to Manufacturing Intelligence, metrology, industrial software, positioning and autonomy. Additive manufacturing is still financially undisclosed, but its strategic fit improved because external and internal inspection are central to scaling qualified AM production.
Hexagon’s AM position is now the verification end of the loop: external metrology, CT inspection and quality analytics. The Q3 2026 report lists the Design & Engineering business (sold to Cadence on 23 February 2026) and CADS additive, a metal-AM software provider, among 2026 divestments. Simufact Additive process simulation is now a Cadence product, so the closed AM quality loop spans vendors.
