What changed: Precision Resource and 3D Systems announced groundbreaking at two metal-additive-manufacturing locations: a second site at Huntington Beach, California, and Precision Resource’s first AM site in Shelton, Connecticut. Precision Resource said Huntington Beach industrial AM capacity is expected to double. The partners plan in-house heat treatment and expanded complex machining around 3D Systems metal-printing platforms. The facilities are expected to become operational in Q1 2027.
Why this matters
This is a concrete investment in the print-to-finished-component chain, not simply another machine announcement. Heat treatment, machining and production transfer can be the binding constraints when printed components must arrive in a finished, accepted condition. It corroborates Addithive’s broader accepted-part throughput lens, but it is laser powder-bed fusion, not the tungsten-carbide binder-jet process discussed in the new Brief.
Evidence grade: Groundbreaking and capacity plans, not operational output. The release gives neither capex nor qualified throughput/yield or incremental revenue. The Q1 2027 milestone remains a forward-looking target.
Next verification gate
- Q1 2027 commissioning and customer acceptance at both facilities.
- In-house heat treatment, machining and quality-system qualification status.
- On-time delivery, fully processed part volume and realized economics, not installed printers alone.
