AML3D: first ARCEMY X order from Northrop Grumman Marine Systems
On 26 October 2026 (Australian time) AML3D announced an initial order of about A$2.2 million for a large-scale ARCEMY X wire-arc system from Northrop Grumman Marine Systems, won in a competitive tender. The order includes a two-year maintenance and services package. The system will be supplied from AML3D’s U.S. technology centre in Stow, Ohio, and installed at Northrop Grumman’s facility in Sunnyvale, California, to support U.S. Navy submarine industrial-base manufacturing. Half the order value is payable on the first project milestone, with final installation expected in AML3D’s fourth quarter of fiscal 2027 (April–June 2027). AML3D says it now has contracts covering 17 ARCEMY systems in the U.S., with customers including Newport News Shipbuilding, Austal USA, Cogitic and Laser Welding Solutions.
Why it matters: the gate for wire-arc AM in naval supply chains is getting capacity installed inside the prime contractors themselves. This adds Northrop Grumman to an ARCEMY customer list that already includes Newport News Shipbuilding and Austal USA. The order is small against AML3D’s A$24.42 million cash at 30 September 2026, and it is a machine sale, not a part qualification. See our AML3D profile and Northrop Grumman profile.
